Carmelite Carefree Village was founded in 1979 as an alternative to the normal type of retirement communities being built at that time, an opportunity for adults 55 and over to live an Independent lifestyle in a family-like atmosphere in a safe, secure complex guided by quality care, affordable rates, and faith-based principles.
The Carmelites wanted to create an environment supported by a professional staff that would provide personalized service 24 hours, a day, 7 days a week. The Carmelites knew that we all can make a difference in the life of a Senior; they wanted to provide a positive approach that would always offer courtesy, politeness, and respect.
“The Village” is not considered a business but a ministry. It is part of the 40-acre Carmelite Campus in convenient Darien, IL along with the National Shrine to St. Teresa (“The Little Flower”), the Carmelite Spiritual Center/Retreat House, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, the Carmelite Communications Office, the Little Flower Society, and the Carmelite Provincial Offices.
